Associate Professor Xiaolu Hu

Cluster Lead · Associate Professor in Finance

Xiaolu connects academic finance with industry practice. Her research examines corporate and asset-pricing questions through bond-market evidence, machine learning, sustainable finance and the Chinese capital market.

A CFA charterholder, she previously worked as a portfolio manager and credit rating analyst. Her research funding totals A$610,000.

Dr Yvonne (Yiwen) Fang

Cluster Associate Lead · Lecturer in Finance

Yiwen studies how machine learning and textual information can explain and forecast financial-market behaviour, with a focus on narrative signals, corporate bonds and sustainable finance.

Her work contributes to the cluster’s capability in data-driven market research and the translation of empirical evidence into useful tools for investors and institutions.

Associate Professor Chao Chen

Associate Professor in AI and Data Analytics

Chao works at the intersection of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, including AI for security and security weaknesses in AI systems.

A former Telstra data scientist, he has published extensively across high-quality AI and security venues. His research funding totals more than A$4 million.

Benyuan brings practitioner experience in responsible investment, ESG strategy and governance into the cluster’s research program.

Before commencing his PhD, he worked in responsible investment roles at KPMG and a leading insurance company, including regulatory compliance and climate-related disclosure.
